New York - Hotel QT

What I will say for now, is that this is probably my favourite hotel for business travel. Why? Because the QT is not targeting business travelers, unless your business is rocking-out, photo-shoots and partying. It is owned by André Balazs, not that the name will really mean much to most of us. Just know that these guys have a keen interest on being a little out of the ordinary.
For starters, there’s a pool inbetween the reception area and the bar. Not for doing laps, although my guess is that on some nights, there’ll be some lap-dancing. The pool is for cuties to look good in bikinis, and make the view from the bar interesting. You see, the classic “wall behind the bar” with all the bottles & shelves, is glass, and eye-level is equal to the water level of the pool.
Some nights, you’ll hear the crickets. On others, there’s a real party goin’ on. A myth? Nope. I checked-in one night to see girls (of all sizes) frolicking in bikinis (of small sizes), one in a thong, and yet another in body-paint. Nice.
Rooms are small, but unless you travel a lot to this part of New York, you won’t realize that almost all hotels in this area are tiny. The beds are on a platform, you have to walk over your bed to close the blinds, TV is mounted on the wall, but by necessity.
The bathrooms are nice… open concept showers. In one room I was in, the toilet & shower were in a shared space, no divider, with the wall of windows to the outside. Yup. Nekkid for all to see. I figured there were way better looking people in the hotel worth starting at, doubtful many high-rise telescope junkies would get their jollies from me.
Internet is easy. Get a passcode from reception. Free breakfast is nice, but the area has the same music for over 1 year, and I’ve been quite a few times. The dude who runs the breakfast has a cool “The Shining” appeal (the black chef who talks to the kid) . Mornings by the pool does feel relaxing, very soothing.
Gym - lacks a treadmill. Shocking. (I don’t care much for weights)
Have yet to try the sexy Sauna & Steam rooms that overlook the pool.
I do not recommend this hotel to families, unless you are an outside-the-box family. Not many 50+ folks, nor kids.
Thumbs up for me. But experience it for yourself.
